In Loving Memory of
Christopher Allport
June 17, 1947 - January 25, 2008

The Ruskin Group Theatre would like to honor the passing of our beloved friend and fellow artist. We loved him. He will be dearly missed by us all.

Christopher Allport
Published in the Los Angeles Times on 1/30/2008.
ALLPORT, Christopher Cherished father, husband, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, son-in-law. Intensely loyal friend and force of nature, whose passing leaves an irreplaceable absence in our hearts. Everyone who met Chris was captivated by his charisma, impressed by his talents and overwhelmed by his appetite for life. No matter what he was doing -- acting, skiing, rock-climbing, gardening, playing music, taking his family on trips, cooking, playing with his English bulldog, Ripley -- Chris consumed his life with a rare and undeniable hunger. His love for his wife and two sons was ferocious; he supported and encouraged all of their endeavors. Son of Alexander Wise Allport and Jane Gardiner Raible (both deceased). Attended Children's Theatre in New Canaan, CT at age nine where his acting career began. Later, Choate and Northwestern Univ. Worked with Paul Sills/Story Theatre. Performed in N.Y. with the Public Theatre at Lincoln Center, and with Ensemble Studio Theatre, and in L.A. at the Taper, South Coast Rep and with Padua Playwrights, to name a few. Last year he wrote and starred in The Backroad Home, a theatrical memoir with his original music, directed and developed by Paul Linke (Ruskin Theatre). His endless list of TV credits includes roles on "The X Files," "Commander In Chief," and most recently, "Mad Men." Survived by his wife, Susan Hayden; his sons, Andrew (Diana) and Mason; his sisters, Catherine and Susan (David); nieces, Liberty and Cecil; mother-in-law, Vivian (Robert); his Aunt Joan; and more friends than you can imagine. In lieu of flowers, the family requests honoring Chris by donating to: Ruskin Group Theatre, 3000 Airport Ave., Santa Monica, CA 90405; and/or The Access Fund, a rock-climbing conservation org. www.accessfund.org

PRESS RELEASE
“BACKROAD HOME” AT RUSKIN SUNDAYS BEGINNING JAN. 28
One-Man Show a Theatrical Memoir of the Sixties

The Ruskin Group Theatre is proud to present The Backroad Home – Christopher Allport’s theatrical memoir of The Sixties draft evasion, the open road and his father – Sundays beginning Jan. 28.
The Backroad Home, developed for the stage and directed by Paul Linke, will run indefinitely.
Weaving personal history and tales from the highway with original music, the one-man piece reflects the yearnings and dreams of an entire generation. Tracing the journey from hippie youth to the present, Allport’s stories and songs illuminate the choices we make when we are young and the understanding that comes only when we have lived.
Allport began his career in New York with leading roles at the Public Theatre and Lincoln Center. Los Angeles area theater credits include The 5th of July and the 50s/60s Vision at the Mark Taper Forum, Happy End at South Coast Repertory, and the title role in Murray Mednick’s “Gary plays” for Padua Playwrights. His television work includes more than a dozen movies-of-the-week and nearly 100 guest starring roles on such shows as “The X Files,” “CSI Miami,” “ER,” “Commander in Chief” and, most recently, “NCIS” and “Shark.” A long-time resident of Santa Monica, he lives with his wife Susan Hayden and son Mason. Hayden is co-producing the show with Ruskin.
With its unique location at Santa Monica Airport and a talented, vigorous ensemble, Ruskin Group Theatre is making an impact on the Westside and Los Angeles area theatrical scene with an eclectic mix of plays. It is also known for its monthly “L.A. Café Plays,” which are done in 10 1/2 hours from conception to staging.
Tickets for The Backroad Home are $10. Call (310) 397-3244 for more info.
